Although it wasn’t a moment to remember for all the right reasons, the game at St Mary’s proved to be one of the most significant turning points in the season.

Wojiech Szczesny was on the receiving end of criticism from both the pundits and the fans, and a 2-0 defeat to Southampton turned out to be his final chapter in this seasons Premier League.

Previous games at West Ham and QPR had seen the Gunners come out as 2-1 victors on both occasions, but the scoreline didn’t match up on paper to how Szczesny was actually playing.

Arsene Wenger made the change between the sticks in Arsenal’s next game against Hull City in the FA Cup, where David Ospina was put between the sticks, a position which he kept for every remaining Premier League.

The Colombian put together 10 cleans sheets in all competitions since January 4th, and Wenger will now face a huge selection headache as to who should start in goal at the beginning of next season.
