7 – Alexis Signs

It was a day that we’ll look back on in years to come, as an understated winger came in to the Gunners and changed the way we watch football.

Alexis signed for Arsenal on July 10th for a fee reported to be in the region of £35million, after an impressive World Cup with Chile saw him burst into the media spotlight.

The 26-year-old made his competitive debut for the Gunners against Manchester City in the Community Shield, putting in a brilliant start to English football whilst playing out on the left-wing.

Already a fans favourite after one game, Alexis made his name for being the type of player who just wants to play football.

His tireless amount of work rate to win the ball back was balanced with his ability to find a goal from pretty much any angle.

And the former Barcelona man made sure we were still singing his name come the end of the season, as he undoubtedly saved his best for last, as he smashed home a rocket of a shot to put the Gunners 2-0 up at Wembley.

His 25 goals and 12 assists from 52 appearances this season ensured he was nominated for this years PFA Player of the Year, and he also took home the title of PFA Fans Player of the Year.
