It may sound strange to Arsenal fans but in January, we said goodbye to two Arsenal first team players,  and for once it wasn’t a bad thing.

Both Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell headed out on loan for the remainder of the season, and although it didn’t seem like a big deal for Arsenal fans, there is something very important we can learn from this.

A year ago, Podolski was starting the FA Cup final and we were raving about having the promising youngster Campbell to link up with the squad and add a certain spark.

However, the arrivals of five significant transfers in the summer, and improvement in the lack of injuries this season meant there was no place for either of these wingers.

There is no longer a case of playing people out of position, and the fact that we’re capable of selling two of our top midfielders for our own benefit tells us we’re on the right track.

Podolski and Campbell have both had disappointing loan spells away at Inter Milan and Vilareall respectively, and the chances of them returning to a starting place in this current squad look incredibly slim.
