When Arsenal won the FA Cup last season, many pundits doubted that the successes would continue, especially against the bigger teams in the Premier League.
However, on August 10th the Gunners had the chance to stake a claim to their critics, and they didn’t hold back, beating Manchester City 3-0 to lift the Community Shield.
The win not only confirmed a second trophy within three months, but it provided the confidence that was needed amongst these players, that they could go out and do it on the big occasions.
Goals from Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and a stunning strike from Olivier Giroud ensured the Gunners picked up a 13th victory in the competition, which happened to be Wenger’s fifth since his arrival.
Alexis Sanchez picked up his first competitive debut against the league leaders, and immediately took to the Wembley stage by laying down an impressive gauntlet for Lukas Podolski to follow.
Arsenal will look to make it 14 Community Shield wins when they take on Premier League champions, Chelsea, at Wembley on Sunday 2nd August.
