Arsenal Could Sign Manchester United Forward This Week As Gunners Step Up Striker Hunt

Arsenal are being heavily linked with a £15million move for Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck according to reports.

Manchester United are thought to be closing in on a deal for Angel di Maria. He would cost around £60million and rumour has it they are looking to sell Welbeck to help recoup some of that fee. With Welbeck often being used on the wing for his current club, playing time could be severely limited at Old Trafford.

Arsenal may be forced into the market as Yaya Sanogo is already injured and the club are currently awaiting news on the length of the injury to Olivier Giroud, who pulled up late on against Everton.

Welbeck is 23 and homegrown, meaning he would not take up a foreign space in the Arsenal squad and also has time on his side to improve further. Whilst he is not a world class striker, for a young English forward, the £15million asking price seems fair enough and he could be a sensible addition for the Gunners.

Welbeck can play wide or through the middle and is good at holding up the ball and getting into goalscoring positions. A run of games playing through the middle could see him develop that goalscoring instinct he had in his early days at Sunderland.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is angry that rumours of Welbeck potentially being up for sale have been leaked. Van Gaal said: “The media were not in the room and I do not speak about that because that’s private.

“I know what I said to Danny and Danny knows exactly what I said to him.

“I assume that Danny Welbeck is not saying anything about our conversation and also in that conversation was (assistant manager) Ryan Giggs and he doesn’t say (anything) either, and that is the way it should be.”

Whilst he would be far from the best option available to Arsenal, he is far from the worst. If nobody better becomes available in this final week then I’d happily see Arsenal move for Welbeck, would you? Let me know by commenting below.
