Reports: Arsenal close in on double signing to kick off exciting summer

Arsenal’s summer transfer business could be about to begin with two of the most exciting young talents in European football arriving at the club.

While much of the focus has understandably been on senior forwards signings and further first-team additions, Arsenal are also positioning themselves aggressively for the future.

Reports linking the Gunners with Paris Saint-Germain youngster Emmanuel Mbemba and Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga suggest Andrea Berta is wasting no time in strengthening the club’s long-term pipeline of elite talent.

It is a strategy Arsenal fans should now recognise.

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have rebuilt not only a top-level first team, but also one of Europe’s most exciting youth pathways. Bukayo Saka became the face of the project, while the likes of Max Dowman and Myles Lewis-Skelly have quickly emerged as genuine first-team options. Young players across Europe are noticing that.

That reputation could now help Arsenal land two hugely coveted prospects.

Mbemba, who has been developing within PSG’s academy setup, is regarded as one of the brightest young defenders in France. The teenager is athletic, composed in possession and capable of playing in multiple defensive roles – exactly the sort of profile Arsenal prioritise when recruiting young defenders.

Arteta values defenders who can operate comfortably in possession, defend aggressively in large spaces and adapt tactically during matches. Mbemba appears to tick many of those boxes already.

Arsenal’s interest also makes sense when considering the long-term shape of the squad. Ben White’s injury issues over the last two seasons, combined with the physical demands placed on Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, mean Arsenal are likely planning ahead defensively. Signing elite young defenders before they fully break through has become a major market opportunity for top clubs.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Monga may be the more exciting name for supporters.

The Leicester City teenager is viewed as one of England’s top attacking prospects and has already generated significant interest from Premier League clubs. Fast, fearless and technically sharp, Monga possesses the kind of one-v-one explosiveness Arsenal’s squad could increasingly need over the next few years.

There are already questions around the long-term futures of several Arsenal attackers. Gabriel Martinelli has struggled for consistency, while Leandro Trossard is now into his thirties. Arsenal are clearly thinking beyond just this season and ensuring the next wave of attacking talent is already arriving before gaps appear in the squad.

That forward planning has become a hallmark of the club’s rebuild.

Rather than scrambling to replace players after decline sets in, Arsenal are trying to build sustainably, constantly refreshing the squad with elite-level young talent capable of developing into stars inside Arteta’s system.

Importantly, these are not simply academy signings. Arsenal’s pathway now feels real.

The transfer window may still deliver the blockbuster names supporters crave, but securing players like Mbemba and Monga early would represent another sign that Arsenal are building something designed to dominate for years, not just compete for one season.
