It’s been an interesting season throughout for Arsenal fans so far, and yet again there seems to be a late surge of excitement filling the Emirates on a Saturday afternoon.
The Gunners now have nine straight home wins in the Premier League, which stands as their best run of home form since 1999.
After Saturday’s 4-1 victory over fellow Champions League chasers, Liverpool, Wenger’s men leapfrogged into second place and continued their impressive race to hold down a spot with Europe’s elite next year.
Fresh Arsenal take a look at just what has changed in the Arsenal camp to inject such a change in this side, who stood at fifth place before the turn of the year.
Squad Depth
It came as a surprise in mid-week when reports released on social media that this was the first Arsenal squad in over ten years that were without injuries.
Now say what you like about our physio team because that’s for another discussion, but what really matters here is the options Arsene Wenger now has to deploy.
Currently in the squad there are easily three players that can cover each position, which means if the worst does happen, we’ve got the ability to bring in real talent who can step up straight away.
With squad depth comes something very important, and that’s competition. Of course Danny Welbeck isn’t happy that Giroud is starting week in, week out, but surely that is only driving him on to do well in training so that if the Frenchman does slip up, he is ready.
If you want more proof of just how good things are at Arsenal, our third choice right-back will keep the likes of Chambers and Debuchy out of the side for games coming up soon. Hector Bellerin now has two goals for the season, and has proved to Wenger he is capable of handling the big games, which was most noticeable against Manchester United.
There have been times in recent years that Gunners fans start to wonder which player they’ll be losing in the summer transfer window. However, in this Arsenal squad there is no player with a bigger profile that can get one over the club. There is nobody you can point at and say he will want to leave later this year, and that is surely a breath of fresh air for everyone involved at the club.
