The Swiss midfielder has been extensively scouted by the Gunners for several seasons now and with a release clause of around £20million rumoured, Arsenal may be ready to act. Without a release clause, Xhaka would be extremely hard to sign. Mochengladbach have no reason to sell in the middle of the season and the player will probably be happy to continue his development in Germany. Xhaka says he is enjoying life at the moment, but with Coquelin injured, a transfer to Arsenal for any central midfielder now surely seems worth the move. Xhaka would have the chance to establish himself at a major European club – could he turn us down? Don’t be fooled by his age of 23, the midfielder plays with confidence beyond his years and already has 39 caps for Switzerland. He may have to curb an aggressive side to his game that we have seen this season, but Wenger managed to do just that with Coquelin.
