Arsenal have well-documented previous interest in Carvalho. The Portuguese midfielder is 23 now and needs a move to a bigger European team to furthen his career. Although his consistency has been questioned, the quality he showed at the Under 21 Championships proved that he can add significant class to our midfield. His combination of height, strength and passing ability is a rare trait and one that Arsenal desperately lack. Some may think it is unrealistic for Wenger to spend around £20million (what will be needed to sign him) on a player who won’t want to sit on the bench. Don’t forget though, that Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are set to be released in the summer, leaving Coquelin as the clubs only holding midfielder. Having both Coquelin and Carvalho in the squad makes us our squad look better equipped for a title hunt.
