Arsenal Make Big Offer For Borussia Dortmund Defender

Arsenal have made an offer for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopulos according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian journalist revealed on Thursday morning: ‘Wenger is looking for defensive reinforcement and he’s targeting Borussia’s Dortmund’s Greek defender Papastathopulos. They offered €15M plus bonuses, the German club wants €25M. They parties are in touch, Gunners pursue the former Milan centre-back.’

Arsenal seem to be on the hunt for a defender that can play on the right or in the centre of defence. Sokratis boasts this versatility, but it is hard to see Dortmund selling their Greek defender with Klopp reluctant to lose more players ahead of the season.

The Greek international is 26, has over 50 caps for Greece and stands at one inch over 6 foot. He joined Dortmund last season for £8.5million. If Gianluca is to be believed, Dortmund are now demanding £20million to sell the defender.

Toby Alderweireld has also been linked and the Gunners have missed out of their primary target Kostas Manolas as he joined Roma this week.  West Ham’s Winston Reid has also been linked as the Gunners search for Thomas Vermaelen’s replacement.
