Arsenal put fan favourite up for sale for £20m

Arsenal will have upset a few fans with a decision they have made.

The club appear to be set to sell one of their goalkeepers. With both Leno and Martinez showing excellent form in the 2019/20 season, it was only a matter of time before the club decided to sell one – as both will feel they should be first choice.

Now, it has emerged that Arsenal are prepared to sell goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez between now and the end of the transfer window according to a report in The Athletic on Friday evening. The report suggests Arsenal have put a £20million price tag on the 27-year-old’s head. That has not gone down well with Emi though, who thinks he should be sold for around £10million. Both fees seem pretty small considering the level of performances the Argentinean has put in in 2020.

Of course Arsenal are lucky to also have Bernd Leno at the club, who the Gunners see as the number one goalkeeper, despite the form of Emi. Should Martinez leave, Arsenal will almost certainly have to bring in a replacement, with Matt Macey currently third choice but probably not up to scratch, based on what we have seen so far.

There have been whispers of Arsenal raiding Brentford again but this time for a playing member of staff, goalkeeper David Raya. That’s one to watch. Raya worked under current Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana at Brentford. The Championship side though will not want to part with one of their key players, who would also count as homegrown.

The desire for Emi to move is driven by his lust for the Argentina number one jersey. He said last month: “My target is to consolidate my place with Arsenal and to become the Argentina No 1. I won’t stop until I get that and if I don’t play for Arsenal, then clearly, I would move on.”
