Arsenal will soon be able to tick one absentee off of their checklist after Kieran Gibbs secured his fate with fellow Premier League side, West Bromwich Albion.
The 27-year-old was set to move across London to join Watford after the club had a £7million offer accepted over the weekend, but the deal broke down over personal terms.
However, in the latest report from John Percy at The Telegraph, it now appears The Baggies have hijacked the deal and are willing to meet the contract demands of the Englishman.
Percy goes on to state a medical is likely to take place later on today before the switch is finalised ahead of Thursday morning’s transfer window deadline.
Gibbs is on a hefty £60,000-a-week salary at Arsenal and the club can no longer afford to have players in the squad earning so much and providing so little, especially since the capture of Sead Kolasinac.
It’s just one of many Arsenal players that are set to join new clubs in the next 48 hours, which has caused a mix of panic and frustration within the Arsenal camp as deals are rushed through.
Reports suggested that allowing Gibbs to join Tony Pulis’ side could tempt them to offload Jonny Evans in the opposite direction but it now appears that deal could be far from easy.
Evans prefers a move to Pep Guardiola’s Man City who are preparing a £30million offer that will finally force West Brom to sell and reinvest from the 29-year-old’s departure.
