Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson has been lined up by five different clubs, as they all aim to get their hands on the right-back for the rest of the season.
Despite Arsene Wenger’s admiration for the lifelong Gunners fan, it seems Jenkinson is caught in a difficult period this season where his best just isn’t good enough.
Earlier this season Hector Bellerin suffered an injury and although Wenger had the faith to throw Jenkinson into games against United and PSG, he’s now concerned with the players mentality.
Many so called supporters gave Jenkinson a tough time on social media, and after the 21-year-old looked at the comments he hasn’t been in the right frame of mind to play.
A January move away wouldn’t answer all of his problems, but whilst the pressure is as high as it is this season, you don’t want a player who can’t handle the temperature in the starting XI.
And now Watford, Hull City, Swansea, West Ham and Aston Villa are all stepping up their interest having made contact with the Gunners regarding some sort of transfer, according to the Daily Mirror.
Jenkinson is desperate for a confidence boost, and whilst they’re out of the League Cup and with every game being important, Arsenal can’t take the risk to include him.
Taking a chance at one of the lower clubs in the Premier League could be ideal, it’s worked in the past with two season-long loan spells at the Hammers that proved to be successful.
Given the treatment he’s received from his own fanbase, I wouldn’t blame Jenkinson for wanting to get out while he can considering the competiton he’s facing.
Hector Bellerin and Gabriel have been in fine form at right back throughout the season so a switch in January would be the only option for Jenkinson to get some game time.
There’s no doubt he’s got a future at the club, but that all depends on how much he can step up his quality to offer Bellerin some genuine competition in that position.
