Arsene Wenger has spoken of his admiration for Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante, sparking rumours that the Gunners boss could be ready to make a bid.
Kante has been a shining light in The Foxes historic capture of the Premier League title, which has got some of Europe’s biggest clubs off their seats and into transfer market mode.
The 25-year-old is reportedly attracting attention from the Gunners, as well as Manchester United and Chelsea who need to invest in order to bounce back to form next season.
Following his £5.6million move from Caen to Midlands side, Kante has put in a concrete display both on and off the pitch to earn him an international call up with France.
The defensive minded midfielder is now set to start for his country when they host this summer’s Euro’s, something that Arsenal boss Wenger has recognised.
I think he will play in the European Championship and for me he was one of the players of the year in the Premier League.
I cannot tell you anything now. He is under contract with Leicester.
I am sure if Leicester want to sell him, they will find some buyers.
So it seems although the French international is a player that Wenger really admires, the manager is remaining coy on whether or not there’s a plan to make a bid soon.
Kante still has three years left on his contract and following his PFA Player of the Year nomination his transfer fee is also set to rise substantially, with Leicester looking for at least £20million.
Arsenal have already been linked with a move for long-term target Granit Xhaka who suits the style of play this Gunners team have created under the Arsene Wenger reign. For more transfer news, visit transferumours.co.uk.
With Francis Coquelin, Calum Chambers and January signing Mohamed Elneny already in the squad as holding players, there are questions over whether or not Kante is needed in this side.
In what looks to be his last season in charge, Wenger will be keen to get the cheque book open early, but with many faces exiting the Emirates Stadium, he has to be wise on what position to address.
