Arsenal have been put on red alert to the availability of Riyad Mahrez after his agent revealed there is a very good chance he could leave Leicester City this summer.
The recent PFA Player of the Year has taken the Premier League by storm this season, much to the admiration of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
And now it seems the Algerian international is ready to look at his options, with the chance of joining a top-level club that can offer serious wages alongside his contract.
The 25-year-old is reportedly prepared to take the risk of leaving his Foxes side who recently pulled off the biggest achievement in English football, winning the Premier League.
And despite that success and the chance to play with them in next years Champions League, Mahrez’s agent has told The Guardian there is a long-term future to consider.
When you have been playing the way Riyad has this season it is bound to attract attention.
He is very happy with Leicester and of course it has been a fantastic season. They will play in the Champions League next year as well so he would be happy to stay.
But at his age if the opportunity comes to play for a big team then we would have to think about it. I’d say it’s 50/50 at the moment whether he stays or goes.
We have had interest from the UK and overseas. We will have to wait and see what develops over the next few weeks.
Following his move from Le Havre for just £400,000 back in 2014, what is now concerning top-level teams is the worth of a player that has been electric all year round.
However, with the futures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell all in doubt, there’s every sign pointing to Wenger’s interest in the Algerian.
Despite Leicester City openly stating that they will do everything possible to keep their star players, it is believed a buy-out clause could be a part of Mahrez’s contract which the Premier League champions couldn’t ignore.
For that reason, Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star, Paul Merson, believes the midfielder could be set to pack his bags and move away from the King Power Stadium.
