Five Things Arsenal MUST Do This Summer

1. Extend Walcott’s Contract

After the England international’s heroics in both the last league game of the season and the FA Cup final, it’s clear how valuable Walcott still is to the club, with just 12 months left on his contract.

For the last few months, Raheem Sterling’s contract situation at Liverpool has lead to speculation that a swap deal between the two clubs, for both players could be on the table. However, a deal is unlikely to materialise with the club maintaining their firm stance on Sterling.

One has to question which of the two clubs would benefit most from a potential deal, and I believe it would be Liverpool. I can only see Walcott returning to haunt Arsenal if he was to exit the Emirates for another Premier League team.

Walcott is obviously the more mature and complete player between the two wingers, with him now being in the ‘golden stage’ of his career at the age of 26. Arsenal simply cannot afford to lose Walcott who’s now the club’s longest serving player, having first arrived at North London back in January 2006.

The priority should be to tie the England man down as quickly as possible, so that the club can then focus on acquiring new players.
