Theo Walcott was deployed as a striker for England’s 1-1 draw with Italy and it wasn’t his best game. The Arsenal man was given the opportunity to lead the line, something he says he is desperate to do regularly, but he struggled to get involved.
England’s unbeaten run following the World Cup was extended but Walcott will be looking for improvements for club and country in the future.

Theo Walcott played 54 minutes of the draw in Turin and failed to make his mark on the game in any aspect. Whilst the service to him during the game was very poor, Walcott also failed to create opportunities of his own.
Fingers will be pointed at the service but the difference between a good and a great player is what they do on off days. Yesterday, Walcott did barely anything of note for the Three Lions and will now be fighting for his international future, after substitute Andros Townsend scored and Walcott’s replacement, Ross Barkley, impressed.
Walcott had just 0.6% of the games possession and had just one shot in the entire match. He won no aerial duels, made no tackles and didn’t change the flow of the game. He was unfortunate to not divert a cross into the net, as the defender beat him to the ball, but in truth it was an evening to forget.
With just over a year remaining on his contract, Walcott will now have to show his worth in the coming matches- something he has not done since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off.
