3 – Kieran Gibbs to Watford
I know this won’t shock as many, but with Gabriel leaving and Mustafi also set to go, both left backs Monreal and Kolasinac are being used as central defenders. Couple this with the fact that Connor Brammal has gone out on loan and you would think that Arsenal may have tried to keep Gibbs around, especially as he would help with squad depth in the Europa League. Another thing that may shock the Arsenal fans is that the fee agreed for Gibbs is reportedly just £5million. Arsenal originally wanted closer to £15million, so this is some drop!
If these all go through, Arsenal will have actually made money this transfer window – and with their rivals pumping huge amounts of money into their squads to improve them, it’s hard to see Wenger’s men seriously competing for major honours this season.
