Under-performing Arsenal Striker Close To Leaving Club

Joel Campbell looks set to finally leave Arsenal permanently in the summer, with Fenerbache very close to finalising a deal for the Costa Rica international.

Reliable sources in Turkey have published the information, with a permanent deal believed to be agreed between the two clubs. There is no fee being mooted at the moment, but something between £5million-£8million seems reasonable.

Arsene Wenger repeatedly turned down approaches from clubs who wished to sign Campbell last summer, but after failing to impress at The Emirates and after a mediocre loan spell at Villarreal, it seems Campbell’s time at Arsenal is up.

The versatile forward was very impressive in last summers World Cup, but has since failed to build upon that form and hype that surrounded him. Despite not getting many chances at Arsenal, his average performances for Villarreal show he should probably be sold.

I like Campbell, I think he has good qualities but I feel he is not suited at all to our system. His weak first touch and passing abilities are incredibly exposed in our style of play.

Campbell’s sale is expected to be the first of up to eight departures at The Emirates this summer. The sales will help fund moves for more additions as Wenger looks to build and refine his squad into Premier League champions.
