As part of the agreement when the Frenchman went out on loan for the 2021/22 campaign, Guendouzi made his move permanent earlier this year after making a certain amount of appearances.

Arsenal will make €11m from the deal, but the main benefit of this move will be the opening of a squad space for an overseas player, which will be quickly taken by Jesus’ arrival.

The 23-year-old has been a central part of the Marseille side who secured Champions League qualification in an impressive season that saw them as runners up to PSG.

The writing was always on the wall at Arsenal for Guendouzi though, following his outburst against Brighton under Arteta’s watch, which effectively ruined his future in red and white.

And following a less successful spell at Hertha Berlin in 2020/21, Guendouzi looks to have found comfort in his native country.
