OUT – Wojciech Szczesny
It comes as no surprise that this man is heading out on loan again, and after waiting all summer we’ve finally got confirmation that he’ll be heading back to Roma.
After picking up 42 appearances in all competitions last season, Szczesny became a regular in the side and a fan favourite as he helped his side to a tidy third place finish.
Szczesny is being thrown straight into the deep end though, and will more than likely start between the sticks as his new side look to see off Porto in the Champions League qualification round.
In the tie of the draw, it could be everything for the 26-year-old to carry on playing European football away from the Emirates as he looks to build experience as an established goalkeeper.
Despite stating that joining the Serie A side was like “winning the lottery” I expect him to come back to the Gunners and compete for the number one jersey once Petr Cech is out of the picture.
OUT – Stefan O’Connor
Picked out to be a possible starter for the first team one day, the centre back has joined Dutch side MVV Maastricht on loan for the season.
O’Connor has been a regular in the Under-21’s side for the majority of his Arsenal career, and now lies his greatest challenge to fit into the setup of senior football.
The fact that he’s been sent out to Holland doesn’t fill me with confidence that he’s going to get much game time for the first team at Arsenal, and this could be the start of the end.
However, with Isaac Hayden joining Newcastle on a permanent basis a space has opened up in the youngsters for a promising centre back to come through and impress the boss.
If he can adapt to life at Maastricht quickly then he has a chance of showing Wenger what he can do, but for the moment the signals don’t look good if he wants to stay in a red and white jersey.
