The Three Signings That Would Transform Arsenal’s Starting XI

The transfer window is in full swing with countless rumours doing the rounds with regards to who Arsenal will be signing. I have a good idea of who I want to see coming into the club this summer – all are realistic targets and the total price falls well within the reported budget of £100 million (although let us assume right away that £70 million is a far more likely figure). As you probably would have guessed; a right back, central defensive midfielder and forward are my three main areas of concern. Aside from that, we could do with another centre-back or two (dependant on Vermaelan’s future) as well as a goalkeeper able to compete with Szczesny. Three of the best…

1. Mathieu Debuchy

28 years old, looks to be a done deal with only minor details to finalize before it is confirmed. The Newcastle and France right back is seen as the primary option to take the place of Bacary Sagna, although it was always going to be a tough task to sufficiently replace the ex-Arsenal man’s defensive quality, experience and commitment. I’m completely open to signing Debuchy – his stats compete with Sagna’s even though he was playing for an inferior side and he represents a Premier League proven, experienced right back. What I find most interesting with Debuchy is his aerial ability – he won 4.01 aerial duels per 90 as opposed to Bacary’s 3.5 per 90. It is common knowledge that Sagna’s aerial ability was used as an outlet for goal-kicks last season and it appears Debuchy’s will be equally as, if not more, impressive.
