Smith Rowe and Saka out, Martinelli starts: Arsenal’s predicted line-up to face Liverpool

Arsenal host the Premier League champions as domestic football returns on Saturday.

The Gunners will want to move closer to the European places whilst Liverpool will be chasing a top-four finish following a poor season, by their standards.

After an international break, Arteta is facing a selection headache. Some players have picked up knocks. Here’s how we see Arsenal lining up. Create your Arsenal XI at the bottom of this article.

Goalkeeper: Bernd Leno

Defence: Kieran Tierney, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Cedric Soares
With the news that David Luiz is out with a knee injury, it is time for Holding to return to the team. Whilst Gabriel and Mari are probably the two central defenders on the best form, Mikel Arteta’s historic team selections suggest he will not select two left-footed players in that area of the pitch.

Midfield: Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey; Nicolas Pepe, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli
Arteta is likely to remain with the midfield duo of Xhaka and Partey. Smith Rowe and Saka are both injury doubts for this clash, which could present an opportunity for Pepe to start again. It could also allow Martinelli a surprise start in this fixture. The Brazilian has been made to wait for first-team football since returning from injury, but his pressing will be vital in this game.

Striker: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Aubameyang is likely to continue leading the line for Arteta.
