Report: Newcastle set to sign Arsenal defender

Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Arsenal defender Rob Holding on a season long loan according to The Atheltic.

Arsenal appear willing to let the player leave on a loan deal, perhaps in a bid to raise the English defenders valuation before looking to sell him next season. Holding currently is unlikely to attract any more than £10million, so the Gunners may view this loan move as an opportunity to both clear space in the squad and improve the players valuation, perhaps ahead of the world moving out of a global pandemic by this time next year.

The report says that there is a lot of interest in defender Holding, but that Newcastle are leading the race to sign him. They also suggest that Holding is likely to play for Arsenal today, before finalising a move to Newcastle, due to a shortage of defensive options for Arsenal in today’s game.

Holding, 24, is likely to be pushed further down the defensive pecking order upon the imminent arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes.

We brought you the news of Newcastle and Leeds interest in Holding a few days ago. It seems Newcastle have now moved to the front of the back and a deal could be done in the early stages of next week.

More to come.
