Report: Arsenal’s opening €20m bid for Serie A forward rejected

Arsenal are in the market for new attacking talent this summer.

According to La Repubblica, Arsenal have had a €20million offer rejected for Lazio forward Joaquin Correa, with the Serie A club looking for around double that amount to entertain talks.

Correa signed a five-year contract back in 2019, so Lazio are in a strong negotiating position.

Correa has had a positive season in Italy, netting 11 goals and 5 assists in 38 games for Lazio. He predominantly has played as a second striker, just behind Ciro Immobile. Whether Arsenal view him as a centre-forward or an attacking midfielder is not clear, but he has the potential to play in both roles. Correa has also played from the left in the past.

The Argentinean is known for his brilliant dribbling and passing qualities. This is highlighted in his statistics which show he averages more than 1 key pass and successful dribble per game.

Arsenal need players who can add goals to their game and Correa is a player who likes to both score and assist goals. He takes on average 2 shots per game. Arsenal will have been impressed by Correa’s performances in the Champions League this season. These were the games where he really excelled, averaging 2.3 dribbles across the 8 games. He also made 5 goal contributions in those 8 games.

Standing at 6ft 2’ and playing with an aggressive style, Correa should be able to adapt well to life in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has been capped 6 times for Argentina, scoring twice.

Arsenal could possibly view Correa as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, with the Frenchman’s future in doubt as he has just one year remaining on his contract.
