Report: Arsenal ‘confident’ of signing £49.5m Xhaka upgrade for bargain price

Arsenal are continuing to grow in confidence that they can secure a deal to sign a new midfielder.

The Gunners are looking to make several new signings this summer and one appears to be in the shape of Leicester and Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans.

According to the Daily Mail, Tielemans’ preference was to join a club involved in next season’s Champions League but at this stage none has come forward with serious interest, leaving Arsenal confident they can agree a deal.

We recently profiled Tielemans on our new YouTube channel, looking at his strengths, weaknesses and how he’d fit into the Arsenal system. We also compared him to Granit Xhaka and it’s clear to see how Tielemans could provide an upgrade on the Swiss international. Watch the video below.

Tielemans is valued at £49.5million on transfermarkt, but due to his contract having just 1 year to run, Leicester are thought to be willing to listen to offers around half that amount.

Youri has been very open about his desire to move clubs. Asked recently if he could leave, Tielemans said: ‘That is not out of the question. I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

‘But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.’

Tielemans is currently with Belgium on international duty, but talks are likely to progress on conclusion of these in a couple of weeks.
