Report: Agent working on deal to bring former ‘£92m’ target to Arsenal in January

Arsenal could be about to reignite their interest in Thomas Lemar as the club looks at new additions in January.

Signed for 72million euros in the summer of 2018, Lemar has failed to live up to expectations to date in La Liga. However he is still just 24 years old and has the potential to become a very good player.

According to Marca, Atletico Madrid are actively looking to sell Lemar with his agent Jorge Mendes looking for a move in January.

Back in 2017, Arsenal reportedly bid £92million for Lemar when at Monaco. Alexis Sanchez was set to leave the club and the Gunners looked to view Lemar as a replacement, as it happened, neither deal was completed.

Following the departure of Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (loan), Arsenal are lacking a natural left winger with Martinelli arguably better as a number 9 and Aubameyang is certainly more natural through the middle.

As well as playing on the left, Lemar is capable of playing as a central midfielder and that could intrigue new boss Mikel Arteta who could really do with some depth across the midfield.

Arsenal’s immediate focus is unlikely to be on a new midfielder though, especially if funds are limited. Calum Chambers’ injury further deepens Arsenal’s problems at the back. The Telegraph list Nathan Ake, Dayot Upamecano and Daniele Rugani as options.
