Official: Arsenal have £40m Suarez bid turned down, but open talks with player

Luis Suarez has asked to talk to Arsenal after the London club had a sensational £40,000,001 bid turned down on Tuesday. The Uruguayan believes the offer which exceeds £40million, allows the player to hold talks with any interested club, but Liverpool insist it meets no release clause. Things could get messy from here.

BBC reported yesterday that Suarez wants and expects to be playing for a Champions League club next season, and so will push for a move. The player of course will not be able to play in the first six games of the Premier League season due to suspension, but will be able to help Arsenal qualify for the Champions League group stage by being eligible for the two-legged qualifying tie – if he signs in time. BBC also went on to say that the player would be willing to move to the Emirates, but is willing to take his time over a decision.

Real Madrid could become the problem in this deal, with Gonzalo Higuain today expected to complete a £34million move to Napoli, a move which leaves Madrid stacked with cash and ready to move for other transfer targets. However Gareth Bale appears to be their main transfer target this summer, and Arsenal fans can hope it is Bale they use their truck loads of money on signing, not Suarez.

Expect more to develop on this in the coming days, with the talks between Arsenal and Suarez pivotal to any deal. If Arsene and the club can convince Suarez to submit a formal transfer request and no interest is shown from other clubs, then it could all go through smoothly – or smoother than right now.
