Monaco v Arsenal: 3 Things Arsenal Must Do To Win

Take their Chances

Giroud in particular had a bad day at the office in front of goal last time out, but tonight, it is imperative that he and all his team-mates are clinical in front of goal.

Arsenal are a team who can create 20 chances in a game and only score 1 or 2 and that’s not a good enough return, especially if the opportunities they create for themselves are clear cut, and therefore should be finding the net. So if we do get in behind the defence, our forwards will need to have ice cold veins up against the goalkeeper, but not just in open play, we need to use our set-pieces effectively too.

Giroud missed about three great heading opportunities in the first leg, and someone of his ability and height should have at least put one of those chances away. Our set-pieces could make the difference in this game if Monaco successfully restrict our opportunities from open play. Above all though, whatever the situation, we have to make clinical decisions because Monaco’s defensive record speaks for itself.

The likes of Giroud, Walcott, Koscielny, Mertesacker and Cazorla were involved in that memorable night in Munich 2013, which turned out to be a pivot for the rest of that season. So with that match engraved in their memories, they’ll surely be encouraged by that game and be able to use it as a blueprint for success against Monaco.
