Despite Gonzalo Higuain being available, and the Gunners being linked with a €40million bid – Wenger is thought to prefer the French duo of Lacazette and Benzema.

Both Benzema and Lacazette would cost in the region of €50million, an amount that Napoli are demanding for Higuain. It seems Wenger would be more prepared though, to pay such a large amount for Benzema or Lacazette, rather than the Argentine forward.

Benzema will only be allowed to leave Madrid this summer if the Spanish club bring in a new stellar forward, with Sergio Aguero thought to be topping their list. Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on proceedings there, as they look to once again swoop for a Madrid outcast.

Benzema has been identified as Wenger’s ‘first choice signing’ for the summer. Wenger is a long term admirer of the experienced and talented Benzema and a deal to bring him to North London could finally happen this summer.

The other target, Lacazette, has endured a wonderful season at Lyon. The 24 year old forward has scored 27 goals in 33 games in Ligue 1, topping the goalscoring charts for the division. He is a quick and lethal forward who has realised his huge potential this season. The striker seems in no rush to leave Lyon, with Euro 2016 around the corner, so Arsenal may have to pay big money to lure him to The Emirates.
