Arsenal appear to have stepped up their interest in Higuain, by tabling a formal offer. The Italian media are convinced that Arsene Wenger wants to take advantage of Higuain’s unstable situation and take him to London.

Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Napoli president is likely to demand in excess of €50million for the Argentine hit man. That price tag is likely to stop Arsenal, and several other clubs from being interested.

Wenger’s love for South American forwards only adds more fuel to the rumours. The Frenchman has previously suggested that the best strikers originate from this continent. Earlier this week he also praised South American signings Alexis Sanchez and Gabriel Paulista for their quick adjustment to the English game.

Higuain has managed a better than 2 to 1 goal ratio for both Real Madrid and Napoli and in the process has earned a tag of one of the best strikers in Europe.

You may remember Arsenal’s pursuit of Higuain in 2013, where the player was said to be in ‘advanced talks’ with Arsenal.

Higuain would certainly add experience and guarantee the club goals if he were to join this summer. Wenger is unlikely to want to spend more than €40million on him though, and for that reason a deal, at this moment, appears unlikely.
