Arsenal are set to hand youngsters and squad players a chance against Southampton in the League Cup on Tuesday night. With games against Man City, Dortmund and Aston Villa in the last week and a North London Derby coming up on Saturday, Arsene Wenger must rotate in order to keep his stars fresh. Here’s five Arsenal players that are expected to be handed their first starts of the season, and in some cases, their full debuts.
1. Joel Campbell
The Costa Rican forward was so impressive at the World Cup, but he is yet to be rewarded with a start for the Gunners. Joel could be trusted with leading the line, but he is more likely to play on the left wing. He offers pace, power and most importantly goals. He will be determined to prove his worth at Arsenal, and this game may present one of very few chances he will get this campaign. With even the out of favour Lukas Podolski ahead of him in the pecking order, a loan in January, or even sale, looks likely. I personally hope he can impress and succeed at Arsenal, he’s a quality forward, with more to offer in the long term than Podolski.
