The Polish international will link up with the Serie A side following the Gunners’ capture of £11million Petr Cech.

Fresh Arsenal confirmed three days ago that the deal was nearing completion, which has not been made official by Arsene Wenger.

The switch was confirmed by the Gunners boss who said the 25-year-old will complete the move, subject to a medical.

Speaking before his sides involvement in the Emirates Cup this weekend, Wenger stated that the loan spell will help both parties involved;

We are pretty much done, it’s down to paperwork.

I believe Roma is a big club and they play in the Champions League, play in a very different championship as well and that is a big experience for him and he is 25 years old.

Szczesny is a top-class goalkeeper and we have three top goalkeepers. If one of the goalkeepers can play somewhere then it’s good.

Szczesny has played as Wenger’s number one man between the sticks since he came through the youth ranks of the club.

However, with little competition on offer the youngster failed to improve on his individual game which led to a series of blunders.

Arsenal sent a statement of intent to Szczesny when signing £4million David Ospina at the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign, and the Pole cracked under the pressure of having a world-class goalkeeper breathing down his neck.

Ospina later took over as the first choice in the starting eleven, helping Arsenal encounter a positive finish to the season.

And now with a name like Petr Cech at the club, it seems Szczesny has an overwhelming amount of work to do to even be handed a chance back into the squad.

But I think the move to Roma is something all Arsenal fans can be happy about, and not in a bitter way at all.

Having a season or two in the spotlight as the main man will boost his confidence whilst playing regular Champions League football.

In that space of time, Cech could drop out of his best days and suddenly Szczesny is back in contention for a starting place.

Time can only tell but the chances of the Pole staying with Arsenal for the rest of his career are incredible high, as he’s always intended.

Roma will confirm the loan signing of Szczesny in the coming days, after Wenger confirmed he will most likely miss the Emirates Cup this weekend.
