The rumours seem to have originally stemmed from Woijech Szczesny follow AS Roma, and several players from the club on instagram – but that’s not all that makes this rumour believable.

Il Tempo suggest that terms have been agreed in principle between Roma and Szczesny, but the Italian club are yet to agree a fee with Arsenal.

Arsenal are likely to ask for around £10million for Szczesny. The Polish goalkeeper is still very young at 25 and would most likely prove a very good investment for Roma.

Football Italia suggest Arsenal have proposed a two year loan deal, which I would fully support, but Roma want to sign him permanently. If we did loan him for two seasons he could return at a time where Cech’s level is starting to drop and after experience at a top club like Roma, he could come back and become World Class at our club.

Roma are search for a replacement for the ready to retire Morgan de Sanctis, who turns 39 this season. They had been favourites to sign Argentine stopper Sergio Romero, but he looks set to join Manchester United instead.

If he does move I wish him all the best and hope he succeeds for them. He is a very good player with world class potential and I will be sad to see him go. The fact is we could not afford to say no to signing Petr Cech and we have two young keepers in David Ospina and Damian Martinez still at the club.

Szczesny, despite his intention to stay – was always the most likely keeper to leave the club since Cech’s arrival. Mainly due to the fact that his wages far exceed Ospina and Martinez’. With Cech earning £100,000 per week, Arsenal cannot really afford to continue with Szczesny’s high wages whilst he remains on the bench.
