3 – Sokratis
The other signing Arsenal are closing in on is that of Sokratis Papastathopoulos who will be confirmed as an Arsenal player on July 1. Sokratis is another experienced defender who now aged 29, has just one year remaining on his deal at Dortmund. Standing at 6ft 1′ he has 79 caps for Greece and has been a regular for Dortmund in his 5 years at the club, making 130 appearances. As well as adding some exciting young prospects, it seems Emery and Arsenal’s priorities were to add some much needed defensive quality and experience to the club to sort out the ongoing issues. Sokratis isn’t a world class defender though, so I think he’ll need the right partner and to play in the right system in order to succeed.
