This rumour has come from no where, but according to reports in Italy (how would they know) Arsenal have made a £3.7million bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreurtz.

Grosskreurtz is the definition of versatile. He currently plays at right back, however he started as a left midfielder and has also played as a left back, right midfield and central midfield. He’s never been one of Dortmund’s best players and has often been blamed for his lack of effectiveness in the final third. But he now mainly plays as a full back, seemingly his strongest position.

He’s 6ft 1 and only 26. His age, price, height and versatility make him a sensible purchase for Arsenal this month, but how much do we need another full back? Debuchy’s injury may have forced Wenger into making this month, as there appears to be concern over Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers maturity in that role. However when Debuchy is fit, Arsenal have three first team right back. At left back, with Nacho Monreal needed in central defence fairly often and Kieran Gibbs injury prone, you can see why Wenger might want to add to his options.

He is reportedly a boyhood Arsenal fan and has 18 months left on his contract. With Dortmund a sinking ship, you can see why he might want a move to the Emirates this month. £3.7million seems a little cheap to me, though.
