Barcelona will pay Arsenal £2million after a clause was triggered in the contract of former Gunner Thomas Vermaelen.

Vermaelen joined the La Liga champions last season for around £14million, but has failed to make an impact due to persistent injury problems. That didn’t stop him celebrating a Champions League win on Saturday night though, and that win meant that Arsenal would net another £2million from his sale.

The Gunners included a clause that meant Barcelona would have to pay the Gunners £2million if they won the Champions League. Of course, they have now done that and Arsenal will be sending over the invoice in the morning I’m sure.

The news means Arsenal will have a little bit more in the kitty this summer and with Joel Campbell closing in on a move away from the Emirates, the Gunners coffers could be increased even more.

I’m sure accountant Arsene Wenger will have been happy with Barcelona winning in a Champions League triumph that meant the Spanish side won the treble.
