Arsenal transfers: Onana to join ‘imminently’, Gunners lead chase for Sterling, Anderlecht midfielder targeted

Throughout the summer we will be bringing you the latest Arsenal transfer news from across Europe. Find the latest below.

Arsenal set to sign Onana ‘imminently’ for bargain price

Andre Onana will join Arsenal imminently according to a report in Holland. The Ajax goalkeeper is currently serving a 12 month doping ban that was placed upon him in February 2021. Tomorrow he faces a hearing on his appeal, with the hope that the ban will be shortened. If his current 12 month ban is shortened tomorrow, he will cost Arsenal around 8-11m euros. If the ban is upheld, he will join Arsenal for as little as 2m euros – according to this report. That seems a steal. The issue for the Gunners is he is another transfer target that would likely be leaving for a month to play in the African Cup of Nations in January 2021. The arrival of Onana would surely be the end or Bernd Leno at Arsenal.

Arsenal leading race to sign Raheem Sterling

According to The Sun, Arsenal are sensationally leading the chase for Raheem Sterling this summer. The England and Manchester City winger has slipped down the pecking order at the club since the emergence of Phil Foden. It is now thought that Man City may be willing to sell the 26-year-old, given their interest in Jack Grealish and Harry Kane. To fund those moves, even Manchester City would have to make some sales, and Sterling would generate in excess of £50million, you’d think. Earning £300,000 per week at City currently, this would be a costly move for Arsenal, but given his form at City when Arteta was at the club, it’s an exciting prospect of that duo reuniting.

Arsenal have interest in Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga

According to reports from Belgium, Arsenal are looking at Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht. They say the player will command a fee of around 15-20million euros. The 21-year-old is a very highly rated central midfielder. He’s played 69 games for his club. Fairly small in stature at 5ft 8′, his strengths are said to lie in passing, intercepting, concentration, dribbling and through balls, according to WhoScored – who also claim he has ‘no significant weaknesses’, sounds nice.
