Arsenal Still Chasing January Additions With Young Defender Targeted

Arsenal’s January spending is not yet over as they are chasing a move for 20-year-old Empoli defender Daniele Rugani, according to reports.

TuttoMercatoWeb claims that despite the arrival of Gabriel Paulista in North London, Arsenal are still looking to improve their defence.

This is backed up by boss Arsene Wenger himself, who stated last week that the arrival of Paulista would ‘not necessarily’ be their last piece of business this window.

Reports state that the young Italian has been watched by Arsenal for some time and the Gunners are looking to make a switch- though they face competition from Italian champions Juventus.

Rugani is co-owned by the Turin outfit and it is stated that they can sign the player for just €3m, despite the fact the 20-year-old has a contract with Empoli until 2019.

However, it is likely that if Arsenal are serious about a deal they would likely postpone a deal until the summer- as their transfer business this month looks complete.

Whilst it is possible Arsenal can complete more deal before next week’s deadline, Arsene Wenger has done the business he wanted to complete and anything else is a bonus.

That said, it will be interesting to see how this story develops in the coming days and whether Wenger has tied up his deals, or whether he is to continue looking for more arrivals to bolster the squad depth at his disposal.
