Fresh Arsenal understands that Arsenal have tonight completed the signing of Mathieu Debuchy for an undisclosed fee.
On Friday we brought you the news that Arsenal were set to sign Debuchy in a deal worth at least £8million. It is now thought that the deal has been completed and an official announcement is expected before the end of the week. The fee could rise to over £10million depending on bonuses being triggered.
Earlier this week Debuchy removed any mention of Newcastle from his official Twitter bio. On Friday Newcastle’s official website listed Ayoze Perez as it’s number 26, the number of Mathieu Debuchy.
Opting for Debuchy over Aurier indicates Arsene Wenger’s desire to add an experienced right-back, with youthful options Carl Jenkinson and Hector Bellerin already emerging from the club. Both players have the potential to play at the top level for the Gunners, but are not ready quite yet. Debuchy’s addition could see him take the first team slot for the next few seasons and then allow Bellerin and Jenkinson to battle to succeed him.
Arsenal are also in talks with Barcelona for Alexis Sanchez, and are confident of wrapping up a transfer worth £32million before the end of the week. £40million spent in one week on two first team players is an unfamiliar sight for Arsenal fans, but one that will certainly be pleasing.
