The lure of Barcelona can often prove too much for players, and we’ve seen that happen far too regularly with Arsenal players in the past. But according to his father, 19-year-old Iwobi is unlikely to take a similar route, at least at this stage in his career.

He’s ‘at the right place’ according to his father Chuka Iwobi.

AfricanFootball.com quote him as saying his sons answer would be ‘no’ to any club should they make an approach for Iwobi now.

‘At this point in time, he is at the right place. He’s doing well at Arsenal, but should any club come for him now, the answer would certainly be no.’

No matter if this club was Barcelona, or whatever was being offered financially, he wouldn’t be lured away from Arsenal with his father adding his progression is best served with the Gunners.

‘For him now, it’s not about the money. So, should a club like Barcelona come with more money, he will certainly stay back at Arsenal because now it is not about him making money, it’s about him concentrating on his career, progressing and going on to the next stage.’

This kind of thing is freshing to hear from young talented players at the club. Gone are the days where players appear to view Arsenal as a stepping stone. Hector Bellerin has taken a similar stance and has even set his sights on becoming Arsenal captain ahead of any return to Barcelona.

Aged 19, I’d agree that Iwobi is certainly at the right place currently. He’s very lucky to be at a team where he is playing regularly and although his form has dropped off a little lately, he’s still shown his quality on numerous occasions for the club, he has a big future for sure and it’s great to see him happy at the club.
