Arsenal are about to announce a January signing, and Arsene Wenger seems very happy with his purchase.
There’s been rumours flying around that the Gunners were in for him, but now Wenger himself has admitted Arsenal have completed the signing of non-League Hednesford Town left-back, Cohen Brammall.
“He has signed for us. He is an exceptional physical talent.” Wenger reportedly told a French TV reporter.
High praise indeed. Brammall is a 20-year-old left back and although he plays non-league football currently, he has been on trial at Arsenal and done enough to earn himself a contract with the club.
However Wenger did go on to add about the impressive youngster: “I don’t think he’s ready, today, to play in the Premier League.”
The Gunners have both Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal as defensive options at left back currently, and it is doubtful that either player will be leaving anytime soon. Wenger has seen enough of Brammall on trial to believe he has what it takes to do something for Arsenal, so perhaps we will see him feature in the League Cup next season – but in the meantime expect to see him in the under 23 side.
20 seems quite old to still be playing non-league, but we will trust that Wenger has got it right here and after seeing the rise of the likes of Jamie Vardy and Ian Wright, they make 20 look young to breakthrough.
