Arsenal fans have been handed a positive update on their search for a second summer signing, and this time it has nothing to do with Karim Benzema.
After a lull of nearly two months in the Gunners’ transfer activity, a well respected journalist from the Telegraph has confirmed he believes a new face is on the way.
Jason Burt, who is the Chief football correspondent at the English broadsheet, has revealed that Grzegorz Krychowiak is set to sign for Arsene Wenger’s side.
When asked whether he knew anything about incoming talent to the Emirates Stadium, Burt answered with a simple one word answer, and it’s exactly the news every Arsenal fan has been waiting for.
Currently playing at Sevilla, the 25-year-old has drawn attention from Wenger following a series of impressive performances in La Liga.
The Polish international stood as a leading figure in the Spanish clubs 2014/15 campaign, and it’s believed triggering a release clause of £21.8million will be enough to land him.
Fresh Arsenal reported on the possibility of Krychowiak moving to the Gunners just 11 days ago, and now the tweet from Burt has fuelled even more belief a deal could be on the horizon.
When it comes to the North London club and transfer rumours, nine times out of ten you have to take every story with a pinch of salt, which isn’t always easy to do.
However, Burt is a renowned journalist for finding the truth, and his record of rarely getting much wrong is enough to make this transfer rumour seem a lot more legit.
With both Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini on their last legs with the current squad, duties are currently lying on Francis Coquelin to lock down the centre defensive midfield position.
That has mounted serious pressure on the Frenchman, with a shaky performance against West Ham and a game last weekend at Selhurst Park where he was lucky not to be shown a red card.
And it’s those two opening Premier League performances that have cast doubt from the Arsenal community, and should Coquelin pick up an injury or inevitable suspension, they don’t have a player capable of stepping in to do a good enough job.
That’s where Krychowiak comes in, and with 24 international caps under his belt as well as a host of top level experience, he could be even more important than bringing in a striker this summer.
When comparing Coquelin with Krychowiak there doesn’t seem too be much difference, apart from Coquelin’s undeniable passion for this club.

Any deal for Krychowiak being completed could see the exit of Mathieu Flamini, as the Gunners veteran hasn’t featured in a first team squad in the Premier League yet this season.
