Arsenal are in advanced contract talks with 22 year old Brazilian forward Wellington Silva, as the Gunners prepare a future for him at the club.
Silva has spent most of his Arsenal career out on loan due to work permit issues, but was granted a work permit in April this year and a new deal could see the Brazilian given a chance in the Arsenal first team next season.
The 22 year old’s contract was due to expire next year, but is now in advanced talks for a contract extension at Arsenal according to the reliable ESPN. They suggest Silva will get a chance to impress for Arsenal in pre-season but Arsene Wenger may opt to loan him out to a Premier League club next season.
Despite joining in 2011, Silva is yet to play for the Arsenal first team but Wenger apparently rates him highly.
The Brazilian spent last season on loan at Almeria in La Liga and featured in 31 league games. He failed to score a goal but played predominantly as a right winger. He is also comfortable playing on the left wing or as a striker.
Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell’s imminent departures may give Silva a chance to impress on the left wing whilst in pre-season and if he does well – he could well feature for the first team next season.
Personally I think he is more likely to go on loan again and I’d love to see him at another Premier League club – so we see if he can adjust to the league. Silva has big potential and hopefully Wenger can help him reach that.
