Arsenal have cooled their interest interest in Morgan Schneiderlin, and instead have turned their attention to signing a new goalkeeper this summer, according to John Cross.
Topping the list of potential goalkeeping targets is Chelsea’s Petr Cech. Cech could be available, even to a rival – as Chelsea are set to let him choose his new club. A move across London could appeal to Cech, who is settled in the capital but searching for more regular game time.
The Mirror report that Francis Coquelin’s form has caused Wenger to cool his interest in Schneiderlin, and turn attentions to improving other areas of his squad – namely the goalkeeping department.
There is no doubt Cech would be an upgrade on Arsenal’s current goalkeeping options. Woijech Szczesny could even be allowed to leave this summer, after Wenger casted doubt over his long term future last month.
There aren’t many alternatives available in this position, so managing to sign Cech would be quite a coup. Whilst Szczesny and Ospina are not the very best quality keepers, it is difficult to identify targets that would be a clear upgrade on them.
Don’t be shocked to see links with Rui Patricio this summer, the Portuguese stopper has long been on Wenger’s shortlist.
