This signing was a real signal of intent from the Gunners. Since our move to the Emirates Stadium all our main rivals were consistently splashing the cash and we, as Arsenal fans were left to look on enviously as the club were restricted financially by the change of home. Finally though, 8 years on, funds were finally freed up to spend big. Even though they were available, it again didn’t look like Wenger was going to utilise them but on deadline day he forked out a huge £42.5 million to sign Mesut Özil. This delighted Arsenal fans worldwide and gave the club a huge lift, giving the fans and players a huge buzz. More of the same this summer Arsene!
