What can we say about Yaya Sanogo? The young Frenchman who was signed from French ligue 2 side Auxerre (Abou Diaby’s first club), should probably return to where he came from.

Since Sanogo’s signing in 2013, his only competitive Arsenal goal came against Dortmund during the Champions League groups stages in November.

In January, Arsene Wenger expressed his desire to loan Sanogo to a Premier League club and not any other country, with Bordeaux reportdely to be keen on the Frenchman at the time. So off he went to Crystal Palace, in search of regular first-team action, in the hope to show signs of development.

Unfortunately, Sanogo has been injured and unused for the majority of his loan spell in South-East London. His only goal for the club came on a day former Gunner Marouane Chamakh also go on the scoresheet in the FA Cup, to make Arsenal fans think the world was ending!

This is the only highlight to date for the 22 year-old and it’s disappointing. Many were hoping for a very fruitful and promising spell but it’s been anything but.

Sanogo has proven to be very injury prone, which is a major stumbling block in his development, a problem which is frightfully similar to that of Diaby’s. If he could only stay fit, who knows what he could achieve.

As for next season, if we’re to challenge for the title, Sanogo isn’t what we need until he proves himself. The best thing for both parties would be dispatch the Frenchman, at the very least for another loan spell.
