2 – Shkodran Mustafi
If the papers are anything to go by, then this deal is close to the line already. Then again, we are yet to see a decent source confirm the Mustafi talks.
We’ve been talking about the German international all week, and after returning from the Euro’s Mustafi could be set for the Emirates.
He’s odds on favourite to sign for Arsenal this summer, and that’s no surprise given his mix of youth and experience through playing with the national side.
His situation at Valencia is a good one, he’s one of their best players but as we all know the La Liga side are forced to get rid of their star men to fund a proposed stadium.
They need the cash and Arsenal need a defender, simple deal then? Well, not exactly because Mustafi won’t want to make the step down from being a first team regular.
If he’s to come into this side then Wenger needs to promise him the chances he’ll get with Gabriel and Laurent Koscielny both competing for a place.
Whilst the latter has a cemented place in Wenger’s team, Mustafi will have to rotate with Gabriel in order to get the best out of one another, which will be the best possible option.
However, can Wenger afford to spend in excess of £30m on a player that doesn’t even have a guaruntee of making the team sheet week after week?
