3 Things We Learnt About Arsenal During Galatasaray Mauling

2)      Wenger might be warming to a new system with Ozil at 10

It may have been down to injuries but if last night was Wenger testing the 4-2-3-1 formation, it passed with flying colours.

Admittedly Galatasaray played right into our hands with their back three, but regardless Arsenal looked very dangerous.

Having a pacey striker and pace on the wings means Ozil thrives in that position. He is able to thread balls through to all three players and is far more involved from the number 10 role.

Ozil’s able to roam around and pop up where he wants, getting on the ball in dangerous areas. When the German is pushed out wide he is wasted and unable to influence the game in the same way.

Arsenal’s record signing put in a man of the match performance against Aston Villa from the number 10 role and after another strong performance from there last night, will be hopeful of more games there.

I don’t expect Wenger to use that formation against league leading Chelsea, but against lesser opponents I hope he has seen enough to warrant using this formation more regularly.
