3 Germans Arsenal Could Sign This Summer

1. Marco Reus

Let’s be fair, number one was always going to be Reus. Whether Arsenal would actually stand a chance of signing him is a contentious matter, but a Gooner can dream! Reus is one of the world’s best players, and possibly the best player in the Bundesliga, which is quite a feat seeing as the league contains the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribéry, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and even World Cup-winning Mario Götze. He has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and… you guesses it, Liverpool (you may pause and take a moment to laugh).

In terms of what he would bring to Arsenal, pace, assists and goals spring to mind. Left wing is a position in which Arsenal have not had the greatest of success in the past few seasons. Lukas Podolski was initially deployed as a left winger, but with limited success. Last season, it was the turn of Santi Cazorla to try his hand on the left wing, but his impact was considerably less than that of his first season at Arsenal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott tend to play on the right wing, whereas Alexis Sánchez could play as a striker. This would leave the left wing as a potential position for strengthening, and at £30m, Reus would be the perfect signing.

However, signing Reus may provide an obstacle to the development of promising young Costa Rica Joel Campbell, who scored his first goal for the Gunners on Saturday in the Emirates Cup game against Benfica. Nevertheless, Arsène Wenger seems to be developing a ruthless streak as of late, and should the opportunity to sign Reus present itself, Wenger would surely bite the bait.
